Summary:

Throughout the Spring 2023 semester of my Master's program, I was tasked with created a short game every week for six weeks for a Game Prototyping class. This page describes the different tiny games I created during that time. Each project was made in Unity, and was based around a specific prompt.

Week 1 - Midnight Hours

Unity

A noir themed 3D Puzzle Game.

Prompt - New York City

Genre: 3D Puzzle/Mystery

 

Midnight Hours is a short 3D puzzle game following a detective locked inside of his office. The player explores his office overlooking the city to figure out the code to get the key to escape.

 

My inspirations for this project include various noir detective media, webcomics like Problem Sleuth, as well as exploration based puzzle games like Grim Fandango.

Week 2 - Zippy Bop

Unity

A vintage inspired platformer, where you play as a robot cowboy in space fighting other robots.

A vintage style platformer of a robot cowboy in space fighting other robots.

My inspirations for this project include Megaman, the original 2D Mario games, as well as shooter games such as Contra and the original Metroid.

Week 3 - Submerged

Unity

A deep sea horror collectathon based around submechanophobia (the fear of man-made objects that are submerged underwater).

Prompt: Titanic

 

Genre: Horror

 

Plays off of the phobia submechanophobia (fear of man made objects submerged in water, such as sunken ships).

The player controls a diver swimming around a shipwreck, collecting coins while being chased by the ghosts that haunt the ship.

My inspirations for this project include games like Banjo Kazooie, with horror inspirations from Iron Lung and Slender the Eight Pages.

Week 4 - Simon!

Unity

A point and click take on Simon says, with added horror and surreal elements.

Prompt: Simon Says

 

Genre: Point and click/Horror

Each of us were tasked to create a game that iterates off of a popular non-digital childrens' game. My game was Simon Says.

Similar to the popular four color Simon toy, the player is directed to remember and follow a pattern of four colors, with each round being one color longer than the last. After 15 rounds of, the player defeats Simon and wins the game.

My inspirations for this project include OFF, Undertale, and Fran Bow.

Week 5 - Abandon

Unity

A text based point and click riddle game.

Genre: Text-based puzzle game

 

A text based game where the player is fed information and has to solve riddles to diffuse a bomb.

Much like previous games, my inspirations for this project include OFF, Fallout, and A Dark Room.

Week 6 - Fast Food

A kart racer designed around fast food and sweets.

My inspirations for this project include Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Racing, and the original Candyland.
